Процесс репликации кольцевых молекул ДНК, характерный для многих бактерий и вирусов, а также внутриклеточных органелл (митохондрий и пластид); удлинение синтезируемой цепи ДНК происходит с 5'-конца, прикрепляющегося к клеточной мембране, а точка репликации расположена в месте ответвления 5'-нити от исходного кольца; по завершении нескольких раундов репликации вокруг исходной ДНК образуется новая молекула ДНК, содержащая несколько копий исходной, соединенных «голова к хвосту» и способная служить матрицей для синтеза комплементарной цепи ДНК.
